It's your go-to guide for everything from understanding different lighting terms to making informed decisions about your lighting needs. Dive into a world where learning about lighting is not only easy but also fun.
What is LED?
LED is simply the abbreviation of light-emitting diode. It is a semiconductor device that emits light when electric current flows through it. When the electric particles meet with the semiconductor elements, light will be generated.
What is Lumen?
The lumen is the unit of luminous flux, a measure of the total quantity of visible light emitted by a source per unit of time. Luminous flux is weighted according to a model (a "luminosity function") of the human eye's sensitivity to various wavelengths. In short, lumen means brightness, the higher the lumen rating the “brighter” the LED will appear.
What is Lux?
Lux is the unit of illuminance, to measure the luminous flux incident per unit area. In photometry, this is used as a measure of the intensity, as perceived by the human eye, of light that hits or passes through a surface.
What is Color Temperature?
Color temperature is the color of light at a particular temperature measured in kelvins and generally ranges from 2700-6500K. The lower the number, the warmer the light appears. The opposite is cooler. Within that range are a variety of color temperatures labelled:
-Warm White Light ranges from
2700K to 3300K
-Cool White Light ranges from
3300K to 4500K
-Daylight White Light is above 4500K
What is CRI?
Color rendering index is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with a natural or standard light source. Light sources with a high CRI are desirable in color-critical applications such as neonatal care and art restoration.
What is PPF?
It stands for photosynthetic photon flux, and its value determines how much photosynthetically active radiation any kind of light produces in one second. It can help you determine how much of the light your grow light produces is available for photosynthesis.
What is IP Rating?
IP follows by two digits, the higher number the better the protection. Sometimes a number is replaced by X, which indicates that the enclosure is not rated for that specification.
The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts.
The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against ingress of water.
Benefits of using LED?
LED is very energy efficient compared to traditional lighting products. Additionally, the structure and methods behind LED chips make them extremely durable. These characteristics of LED that save money for users and give our earth a longevity.
What are the LED applications?
LED lighting technology can be applied to different areas and fixtures offering the user a brighter more energy efficient option including residential, commercial or industrial lighting. LED lighting can also be combined with art and architecture. For the field of technology and art, creations with the theme of "light" have hardly been absent.
