Who it's for / where it goes

The hand-wave bar is for home counters where you want to switch and dim the light near the task without reaching a wall switch. Its slim body and plug-in transformer make the underside space, power route and easy access to the sensor the main planning checks.

Check before you buy
  • Size and fit. Published size: 18 x 2.5 x 0.5 in. Compare all three published dimensions with the cabinet underside and leave the sensor reachable. Measure the route to the transformer and outlet separately. The slim profile does not remove the need for a suitable mounting surface, connector clearance or permission before attaching it in a rented home.
  • Brightness. About as bright as a 40-watt household bulb (450 lumens).
  • Power and installation. Plug-in transformer. Needs a reachable suitable outlet and a safe cord route. Electrical rating: 8 W.
  • Location. Indoor use only.

Questions buyers ask

Can a dimmable bar use any wall dimmer?

No. Z-UCL-2014-18IN dims by hand at its sensor and is explicitly not for dimmer switches. Keep the published hand-wave control available under the cabinet rather than hiding it behind trim. Is a motion sensor the same as hand-wave control?

This model’s detailed sensor description is hand-wave IR with a short operating range. Plan to pass your hand near the bar deliberately, rather than expecting it to notice someone entering the kitchen. Check that the sensor remains accessible beneath the cabinet face frame. Can I work out how many lights fit under a watt limit?

The hand-wave bar publishes its electrical wattage and a linking limit on the supplied transformer, but the allowed setup still depends on approved connecting parts and compatible bars. Ask for the intended combination before making a quantity decision from arithmetic alone. Keep this transformer limit separate from the higher limit of the hardwired-or-plug-in 3-CCT family.
