Who it's for / where it goes
The shaded garage bulb is for garage and workshop users who want light directed downward from an existing E26 socket. Its aluminium shade changes the physical fit and direction of light, making the clearance around a low ceiling holder especially important.
Check before you buy
- Size and fit. Published size: 9.84 x 9.84 x 5.7 in. Bigger than a household bulb: about 9.8 in across and 5.7 in tall. An ordinary bulb is about 2.4 in across and 4.3 in tall, so check it fits your fixture, shade or cage. Compare the complete shade width with the space around the holder, not just the screw base. Check adjacent shelves, door tracks and cages. The wide shade may prevent a fit that would accept a narrower bulb, and the published dimensions do not establish permission for an enclosed fixture.
- Brightness. About as much light as 6 ordinary 60-watt household bulbs (5,000 lumens; an old 60-watt bulb gives about 800).

What if the dimensions are not published?
The Z-XL-GL50 does publish dimensions for its broad shade; if your fixture does not, measure the complete assembly against any surrounding fitting. Do not remove or alter parts to force it into a smaller enclosure. If the available space is narrow, compare the unshaded garage bulb’s dimensions and actual watts before selecting an alternative. Are more lumens always better?
The shaded bulb and the TB50 both publish the same total lumen output, but they are different physical choices. This model’s shade directs the light downward and its body is wider. Think about the surface below the socket and whether shelves or your working position need light from another angle. Does dimmable mean it works with my old switch?
For Z-XL-GL50 the starting point is simpler: the record says it is not for use with dimmers. Check the existing control before ordering a replacement for a dimmed ceiling bulb. This model also has damp-location wording, which does not make it a general outdoor security light.
